colorado daily life

Well, that happened fast. A few texts to friends in CO who are in the know, an evening or two of weighing the pros and cons, making a site reservation, and mapping a route that let us easily drive straight through (only stopping for masked pit-stops to fill our gas tank and empty our bladders), and we set out for CO about two weeks after the idea came to us.

Since all our plans have been canceled this season, we decided to take summer into our own hands and fill our memory banks with things that didn’t revolve around the world, seemingly, being on fire.

We camped 3 nights at Oh Be Joyful just outside Crested Butte and it was just what we needed. At times it felt like we were the only people in the Rockies. Stephen and I had spent time during the summer in CO before, but this was the kid’s first trip. Hiking, fires, catch at the base a mountain, a little snow, distant connections with some deer, a wolf sighting at night, a flat tire on the way, and lots of laughter in our tent at night.

Memory bank: full.

Still navigating this new normal. Going a little stir crazy but, overall, so thankful to be able to stay home, to have a home, and to have each other.

All our plans canceled or postponed. Thinking about making a trip to CO happen if Stephen and I can muster a drive straight through, no hotels or staying over with friends on the way. Camping is allowed, yes?
